THE YOUNG GODS
"Super Ready / Fragmenté"
PIAS Recordings - 2007
CD
During their concerts in these last years, we already noticed that The Young Gods were going back to the origins. Franz Treichler and friends left behind both the electro contaminations of "Second Nature" and the ambient radicalisms of "Music For Artificial Clouds", going back to master that sound they actually invented more than twenty years ago. "Super Ready / Fragmenté" starts back from 1995's "Only Heaven", cutting off its monolithic approach in favour of a psychedelic industrial rock with a strong acid and visionary taste, elegantly carved by the tribal drumming, razor-sharped sampled bass and guitar riffs, few electronic effects, and led by Franz Treichler's seducing and thrashing vocals.
Excellent examples are the first two tracks, "I'm The Drug" and "Freeze", adrenalinic and involving till exaltation, while third "C'Est Quoi C'Est Ça" and, above all, mantric and lysergic "Stay With Us" link directly to the liquid and hypnotic atmospheres of the last but one album. The rest of the CD is swift and quite catchy, with charming bass lines and cutting guitar riffs that find their best results in "About Time", the epic title-track, "Secret" and the overwhelming "Everythere".
This new work by The Young Gods may not be as intensly innovative as their two predecessors, but anyway it places itself on very high standards and is not to be missed by the Swiss trio's faithful followers as well as by the neophytes. Now we just need to experience the new material on stage!
