BAIN WOLFKIND
"Wasteland"
Hau Ruck! - 2007
mini CD
Bain Wolfkind returns with another short releases, this time a mini CD featuring four unreleased songs. The gloomy and minimalistic black and white artwork seems to reflect the artist's inner feelings that inspired these new thin and bare ballads: sadness, loss, sense of failure and defeat. Titles like "Bury Me In A Shallow Grave" or "Hang Me High From That Tree" make you think of lonesome Western outlaws waiting for execution, or drowning into rivers of alcohol in the dirtiest saloon of the most desolate and dusty frontier town. David's deep voice and the vibrating sound of the guitar strings create atmospheres between blues rock and depressed country ballads.
The great limit of "Wasteland" is the incredibly short running time of 11 minutes only. An EP is an EP, that's right, but some more songs or even a new full-length release would have been more suitable to appreciate Bain Wolfkind's decadent songwriting. This way, either you are a hardcore supporter of David's musical adventures, or these four tracks are probably not enough to justify the purchase. A release for completists.
