SOUTH SATURN DELTA
"Experience The Concreteness"
Cold Spring - 2007
CD
South Saturn Delta, apart from being the title of a posthumous Jimi Hendrix album of demos and leftovers, is also a sort of Japanoise supergroup, featuring the likes of Maso Yamazaki (Masonna), Hiroshi Asegawa (Astro, C.C.C.C.) and Nobuku Emi (Tsurubami). "Experience The Concreteness" is the first ever album released under this name, and consists of four long tracks recorded live at different locations in Tokyo and Osaka.
Judging from the names involved, you should know what to expect from this CD: the concreteness you will experience is that of the inexorable and ruthless walls of pure unarticulated white noise generated by the trio with guitar, voices, synth and drums. The result is not too far from the members' individual projects, but also close to the live recordings of Throbbing Gristle or the sheer brutality of early Controlled Bleeding, sometimes with a touch of extreme psychedelia (it's the case of closing "Rocket Incantation").
Like most Japanoise releases, South Saturn Delta's debut will probably appeal to the faithful followers of this scene only, since the absolute lack of rhythm, structure or the slightest melodic element is a real challenge to the occasional listener's ears. If total, utter noise is not for you, stay away, stay safe.
