GELSOMINA + NO XIVIC
"Furnace"
Some Place Else - 2007
CD
This CD is the result of a crossed collaboration between two notorious Finnish underground noise-makers: Pekka Pt, aka Gelsomina, and Hennka Kyllönen, better known as No Xivic. "Furnace" features 3 tracks, one assembled by the combined efforts of both artists, and other two songs, each done separately, like they were an introduction to their individual personality and approach.
The most interesting of the lot is easily "Furnace", an over 25 minute-long magmatic mass of powerful distortions, hypnotic subterranean melodies and psychedelic noise eruptions. No Xivic's ambient and atmospheric elements manage to contaminate Gelsomina's noise material and derail it towards a different, more stimulating territory. This grand symphony for steel, metallurgy and asbestos was recorded live in late 2006. "Everlasting Fire" is a typical harsh noise track, loud and ear-shattering, actually impossible to distinguish from most of the dozens of Gelsomina's releases, as well as, indeed, from the majority of projects / units in this area. "Greater Suffering" unleashes No Xivic's more subtler and darker vision, a blend of dark ambient and gloomy electro-acoustic sounds.
"Furnace" would be worth listening for the excellent title-track only, but the presence of the other two tracks makes the CD surely not to be missed by every follower of Gelsomina and No Xivic, as well as of Scandinavian harsh noise and dark ambient in general.
