CULT OF YOUTH

"Cult Of Youth"

Axiomata Product - 2007

7" EP - 325 copies

First release of Axiomata Product, a new-born American label, is the debut 7" EP by Cult Of Youth, a promising young neofolk project. The thick white vinyl is pressed in 325 copies and comes inside a red sleeve with a much enigmatic image on the front. Three tracks of remarkable quality are featured on the wax: on side A, "Train To Kill" is a gloomy and menacing anthem, with percussion, xylophone and electronic distortions marching along acoustic guitar and Sean's strong voice, here particularly reminding of Michael Moynihan's. Side B contains the fast and epic "Nature", a hymn of great beauty and passion, and "Eye To Eye", an involving tribal ride.

In a moment of stasis and reflux like the one currently experienced by the neofolk scene, a release such as Cult Of Youth's debut 7" is much welcome. Although Sean is not inventing anything new or groundbreaking here, his neofolk is exactly what we'd like to listen in the genre: powerful, fierce hymns, epic savage melodies, and that feeling of ancient and primordial, inevitably lacking in the umpteenth German Forseti clone, or the latest Douglas P.-wannabe.

Highly recommended if you like neofolk, but also posses critical spirit and demanding taste, while waiting for Cult Of Youth's upcoming full-length work.
