C.C.C.C.
"Chaos Is Cosmos"
Cold Spring - 2007
CD
C.C.C.C. are one of the classic names of the Japanoise era, arising at the beginning of the 1990s' and well-known for being fronted by S&M sex star Mayuko Hino, whose bondage performances enriched the bands' live shows. It was several years back since we heard from them the last time, and it's now Cold Spring to present unreleased material under the title "Chaos Is Cosmos". The single, over 43 minutes long track featured on the CD was actually recorded towards the middle of the 90s', and remastered / reprocessed in the studio during the first months of 2007.
If you are already familiar with C.C.C.C. or any Japanoise production, you certainly know what to expect: their sound is a total, overwhelming, inexorable and ruthless hurricane of pure, saturated and abrasive feedback noise, completely deprived of any rhythm, structure or melodic element. The only possible approach to this kind of recordings is turning up the volume and lay back, trying to dive into the thick wave of distortions and grasp some impression. It's not likely to be easy, since the CD's whole 43 minutes present nearly no variation, except for a small respite towards minute 20:33, where the mass of sonic horror seems to move back, leaving the scene to Mayuko's Japanese spoken words and slightly different hissing sounds. But, it's just a moment, and a matter of seconds before everything starts back again.
Undoubtedly, "Chaos Is Cosmos" is a release for C.C.C.C.'s and Japanoise fans and completists only. If this type of sound is definitely not your cup of tea, it's better to keep distance.
