TOR LUNDVALL
"Yule"
Strange Fortune - 2006
CD - 333 copies
Shortly after the release of the much acclaimed "Empty City", Tor Lundvall returns with this mini album, presented in a cardboard sleeve and limited to 333 copies only. "Yule", which makes reference to the musician and painter's Northern European background, must not be intended as a Christmas CD, rather as a collection of impressions created by the season. The general atmosphere that the listener will encounter along these new 10 tracks is anticipated by the as usual magnificent paintings on the cover.
The feelings evoked, just like in the previous works, are of bittersweet melancholy, associated this time with the rituals of the festivity: "Busy Station", "Train Home", "12:00 AM", "Snowy Morning", all sum up the typical routines of visiting relatives, family gathering, exchanging gifts on Christmas Eve. "Fading Light" and "January", on the opposite, makes us think of the beginning of the new year and the sadness connected with the end of holidays and the return to normal working habits. Above all stands the touching "Christmas Eve", possibly Tor's most beautiful song ever, delicate as a piece of pure white crystal.
If you loved "Empty City" and "Last Light" in particular, "Yule" is the natural development of that style, as well as an intimate and delicate collection of ambient music for the cold season. Hurry up to get your copy before it's sold out!
